Day 1-2: Late Arrival in Parisian Precipitation

The tour began Sunday evening, which was when everyone in the group was to arrive, meet our guide, Virginie, and spend a lovely evening over dinner getting to know one another. UNFORTUNATELY, due to work, I ended up arriving Monday morning.  :( Though I missed the first night and Monday morning's excursion to see Notre Dame, I was able to easily coordinate and meet up with our incredible guide Virginie at our lovely hotel, Hotel Londres Eiffel! She updated me on the tour itinerary, taught me a few helpful French phrases and most importantly, advised me on how to avoid the infamous "French Frown!" Turns out the French mainly frown in response to rudeness! So it's all about being polite! Always greet people, say "please" and "thank you," and be courteous.

Afterward, I checked into my room. The hotel staff was so kind and welcoming and even took time to give me the lay of the land in case I wanted to wander about! After a FaceTime with my dad to let him know made it safe, wander about is exactly what I did...

Hotel Londres Eiffel

Before hitting the streets, I HAVE to share a bit more about the hotel, because this is a hallmark of the Rick Steves Tour experience -- you stay in the coolest boutique local hotels! And I love a great room so I wanted to show mine off! My adorable little sanctuary was on the 3rd floor, had an incredibly soft bed, and a spacious bathroom! There was a TV in the room but who needs that when you have a picturesque window with darling flowers right outside! What you don't see in these pictures is also the included breakfast spread near the lobby that is out every morning complimentary to the tour. Yogurt, pastries, juices, coffee, and tea -- all for the group to enjoy before striking out on our adventure.

The cutest room ever! Comfy bed, warm blankets, and charming details in every corner.

A Turn about the Trocadéro

Though the first day in Paris was a rainy one, it was no less romantic. I spent the day wandering about the area and before I knew it I was at the Eiffel Tower! Its grandeur is breathtaking! I saw the Olympic rings and, after crossing the Seine, found myself at the Place du Trocadéro, which is hands down one of the best spots to take in the Eiffel Tower! Perched on a hill, it’s like having a balcony view. The open plaza, fountains, and grand staircases make it a picture-perfect scene. Plus, I got to practice some of the French Virginie showed me! No "French Frowns" here!  Just lots of fun and beautiful things to see right around each corner -- a wonderful promise of what the Rick Steves Tour had in store for the rest of the week!
